BERNARDITO Dabuet, a utility worker at the National Food Authority (NFA), and Fernando Viado, a mechanic at the city government of Antipolo, proved there is nothing wrong about using a bit of elbow grease.
The two led the 2023 Outstanding Public Officials and Employees (Dangal ng Bayan) Awards by which the Commission on Civil Service (CSC) honors government workers who have exhibited exemplary performance in their fields.
Dabuet, Viado and eight other individuals were given the award during a ceremony held yesterday at the Malacañan Palace.
CSC chairperson Karlo Nograles said Dabuet deserves recognition “for demonstrating professionalism and excellence in service.
Nicknamed “The Engineer” by his co-workers, Dabuet is credited for showing innovative and creative approaches in doing his job at the NFA.
Because of his versatility in various jobs, the CSC commended Dabuet for significantly reducing labor costs for the NFA. Beyond his primary responsibilities related to electrical work, carpentry, landscaping, and plumbing, he has likewise thrown his hands as forklift operator, machine maintenance, driving, and various other tasks.
On the other hand, Viado, whose official designation is Administrative Aide VI, was honored for his “unwavering dedication to public service” and going out of his way to provide extra care for Antipolo City’s fleet of service vehicles.
Colleagues described him as the indispensable figure for preventive maintenance and upkeep of the city’s motor vehicles.
Viado is appreciated for choosing to stay in the public sector despite lucrative job offers from private entities.
He continues to excel in his role within the city government in spite of facing partial deafness due to a work-related incident.
“Alongside eight other recipients of the Dangal ng Bayan award, these two individuals have exemplified what it means to go above and beyond the call of duty. They did not let their personal limitations prevent them from satisfactorily meeting – even exceeding –the requirements of their jobs,” Nograles said.
