THE US State Department Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has strongly advised its citizens not to travel to the Philippines due to COVID-19 concerns.

The advisory was issued in accordance with the Level 4 Travel Health Notice dated April 20 issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention due to very high level of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines.

The updated Level 4 travel advisory included 100 other countries. Before the alert level was raised, there were only around three dozen countries in the list.

“There are restrictions in place affecting US citizen entry to the Philippines,” it added, referring to restrictions imposed by the Philippine government on the entry of foreigners in the country as it seeks to curb the number of COVID cases.

Metro Manila and several nearby provinces have experienced a surge in COVID-19 cases for several weeks, forcing the government to enforce a lockdown until April 30.

The advisory said if traveling to the Philippines cannot be avoided, travelers should complete their COVID-19 vaccine shot.

It also called on travelers to practice minimum health protocols such as wearing of face masks and maintaining physical distancing.
