WHO would not want to have a Juan Gomez de Liaño?

University of the Philippines coach Bo Perasol said having his prized playmaker, who is aiming to end his UAAP career with a title, on the squad for two more years will be a big boost.

“With Juan’s skill level and talent, his options are numerous. Playing back for UP is still a viable one for him,” Perasol told Malaya-Business Insight yesterday.

“Knowing Juan, he still would want to end his college basketball career with a championship,” he added.

Gomez de Liaño’s eligibility status is now up to the UAAP Board.

“It is a given that these same issues are going to be debated and deliberated by the UAAP eligibility committee when that time comes. However, all parties involved were clearly advised of the possible consequences of the action,” Perasol said.

“So, we just have to wait for that meeting,” he added.

The 6-foot-2 Gomez de Liaño saw action for Nueva Ecija in the 2020 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3í—3 President’s Cup last month.

A former Rookie of the Year, Gomez de Liaño is set to sit out the 83rd UAAP basketball tournament to toughen up as a member of the Gilas Pilipinas national team training pool.

He is a member of the 15-man Gilas crew that left last Sunday for the November window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers to be played on a bubble in Manama, Bahrain.

Gomez de Liaño averaged 10.3 points and 3.6 rebounds for the Fighting Maroons in the last UAAP cage wars.
