UAAP won’t jump queue on vaccination

THE UAAP is more than willing to vaccinate its student athletes but doesn’t want to jump the queue.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a highly-reliable UAAP insider told Malaya-Business Insight the league is considering inoculating its players but frontliners and those in the priority list should go first.

“There are talks (about vaccination) but individual responsibility muna (among the schools),” the insider said.

“While there are talks in the UAAP, wala pang malinaw kasi nga. . . the COVID-19 vaccines are for the special population na dapat munang mabigyan.”

The insider insisted giving the jabs to the players is not a priority for now since there is no tournament to prepare for to begin with.

“Kahit gusto na naming maglaro at ma-vaccinate ang sarili naming athletes, hindi pa rin naman ito priority as of now,” the insider said.

“Ang problema ay kung sino iyong mga dapat munang mabigyan. Kulang na kulang pa nga. Unahin muna dapat talaga iyong dapat mabigyan ng gobyerno natin.”

The UAAP is eyeing to launch its new season in September if and when it gets the green light from the government.

That plan, however, seems to be unlikely, especially with the spike in COVID-19 cases and the government’s slow vaccination rollout.
