FOR now, the UAAP is leaving the inoculation of its athletes at the hands of the schools.
A highly-reliable Malaya-Business Insight source said that although vaccination against the killer pulmonary disease is a national issue, the universities can handle it.
“Not aware of any (government plans to help in the vaccination of athletes),” the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.
“COVID-19 vaccination is a national interest and, in some cases, the university but not the UAAP.”
UAAP executive director Atty. Rebo Saguisag could not be reached for comment.
Vaccines from Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Gamaleya have applied for emergency use in the country.
The Philippines is currently among the developing countries waiting to procure vaccines for the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic, with the first batch of doses expected to arrive in the coming months.
After scrapping its 83rd season due to the health risks and uncertainties brought about by the coronavirus crisis, the UAAP is eyeing a September opening this year for its 84th season.
