RARING to regain lost glory, the Green Archers are ready to hit the bullseye, even on unchartered territory.
La Salle coach Derrick Pumaren said the possibility of the UAAP holding its 83rd season in a bubble should not pose a problem for his charges, but they need time.
“It’s no problem with us (playing in a bubble),” Pumaren told Malaya-Business Insight yesterday.
“As long as we are given enough time to prepare and practice with contact to avoid injuries when the bubble starts,” he added.
One coach of a men’s basketball squad told Malaya-Business Insight that from what he heard, holding the new season in a bubble, set to be hosted by La Salle, is an option.
The Commission on Higher Education last Monday released the guidelines for the resumption of collegiate team practice, but it will be limited to workouts and physical conditioning.
Actual games need a greenlight from the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.
Despite the prolonged wait to get back to the gym, Pumaren is staying patient.
“(We) will still have to wait for approval of IATF before I can react or comment on it (guidelines for the resumption of college team training),” Pumaren said.
“There might still be changes so it’s too early to say something.”
Former University of Santo Tomas prized playmaker and reigning Rookie of the Year Mark Nonoy and guard Deo Cuajao moved to the Archers from University of Santo Tomas amid the Sorsogon bubble controversy last Sept. 15.
Ace point guard Evan Nelle also transferred from San Beda to the Taft-based five, although he will serve the required one-year residency before he can suit up like Nonoy and Cuajao.
La Salle secured the commitments of forwards CJ Austria of University of the East High School, and Emman Galman of Perpetual High School.
