THE typhoon with international name “Hagibis” is no longer expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical
Services Administration said yesterday.
PAGASA earlier said Hagibis could enter PAR by Friday if it does not change course.
Weather specialist Meno Mendoza said Hagibis was too far to affect the country. As of yesterday morning, it was some 2,020 km east of northern Luzon, way outside the PAR.
“It has no direct effect (on the country) and as of now, based on our data, there is already a small chance it will enter our Philippine area responsibility,” he said.
Mendoza also said the northeasterly surface wind flow is affecting Luzon, causing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the Bicol region.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. — Victor Reyes
