THE typhoon with international name “Hagibis” may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said yesterday.
As of 3 p.m. yesterday, Hagibis was some 2,630 km east of southern Luzon, still way outside the PAR. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 215 kph, moving northwest at 25 kph. If it enters the country, it will be called “Perla.”
If the typhoon does not change course, it could be inside the country by Friday but is not expected to make landfall, said weather forecaster Ana Clauren. — Victor Reyes
