Two weathered souls find solace and newfound joy in each other’s company in NET25 Films’ heartwarming rom-com, “Monday First Screening.”
At the heart of the tender love story are the amazing artistry of award-winning actors and directors Gina Alajar and Ricky Davao, who deliver performances that are nothing short of captivating. Gina is retired Professor Lydia, brilliant in her career but carries the weight of abandonment and betrayal of her former husband, who left her and found love in a younger woman. Meanwhile, Ricky portrays the widower architect, whose smiles hide the depths of grief and solitude after losing his wife to cancer.
Lydia is initially resistant to his charms, but he perseveres, doing his best to win her with his sincerity and silly one-liners. When he succeeds, the viewers rejoice with him.
It would be an injustice to not shine a spotlight on the exceptional talents of the supporting cast — Ian Ignacio, Che Ramos and remarkable performers Soliman Cruz and Ruby Ruiz.
Navigating themes of forgiveness and second chances, “Monday First Screening” of skillful writer-director Benedict Mique (“ML,” “MOMOL Nights”) is like a breeze on a summer day – refreshing and much appreciated.
“Monday First Screening” will be distributed by Regal Entertainment’s Roselle Monteverde in over 100 theaters, starting August 30.
