THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is ready to sit down with the Department of Agriculture (DA) to discuss proposals to exempt food delivery trucks, particularly those transporting agricultural products, from the day truck ban to be imposed along EDSA.
MMDA Assistant Secretary Celine Pialago said they are just waiting for the formal DA letter-request before discussing the issue with the Metro Manila Council (MMC), which requested for the return of the truck ban.
The DA has said that truck drivers who are carrying food products, should be allowed to pass through EDSA for faster delivery of the produce.
Pialago said that since no final decision has been made, the truck ban, which will be reimposed starting today, Monday, will continue to apply on food delivery trucks. “There will be P2,000 fine for those who will violate the truck ban,” she warned. — Noel Talacay
