GOVERNMENT troops seized a submachine gun and five assault rifles, owned by the communist New People’s Army, in Cabanglasan town in Bukidnon on Tuesday.
The Army’s 88th Infantry Battalion (IB) said the firearms were retrieved on information provided by two NPA rebels who surrendered to the battalion last Saturday.
The two were earlier identified only as “Sam” and his wife “Ella,” an NPA squad leader and NPA squad medic, respectively. They surrendered due to hardships brought about by relentless military operations, according to the Armed Forces.
Acting on the information provided by Sam and Ella, soldiers of the 88th IB proceeded to Sitio Kaungahan, Barangay Cananga-an in Cabansalan, where they recovered a caliber 30 submachine gun and five AK47 rifles.
The 88th IB said the former rebels decided to reveal the location of the firearms to prove their sincerity in abandoning the armed struggle.
