GOVERNMENT troops recovered three high-powered firearms from the communist New People’s Army in Antipolo City on Monday, following information provided by a female child warrior and another rebel who surrendered last week.

Capt. Jayrald Ternio, spokesman of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division based in Rizal, said the M653 rifle, M16 rifle, and M14 rifle were unearthed in Barangay San Jose.

Ternio said the troops from the Army’s 80th Infantry Battalion and the Rizal provincial police were led to the buried firearms by child warrior “Ana” and her fellow NPA rebel Alvin Molina, alias Jack.

The two rebels surrendered to forces of the Army’s 202nd Brigade in Baras town in Rizal on Wednesday last week. The two, both members of the Dumagat tribe, were members of the NPA’s Platoon 4A4 under Guerrilla Front Cesar.

Brig. Gen. Alex Rillera, commander of the 202nd Brigade, said Ana and Molina “volunteered the information (about the firearms) during the debriefing.”

Maj. Gen. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos, 2nd ID commander, said the information provided by Ana and Molina was the “the sincerest gesture that former rebels can do to substantiate their desire to turn their backs from the communist’s armed struggle.”
