TONI and ALEX GONZAGA

SISTERS Toni and Alex Gonzaga joined the Metro Manila Film Festival in 2018 with the romcom, “Mary, Marry Me.” They’re now back in this year’s film fest with a horror-comedy, “The ExorSis.” What is it all about?

“I play Gina at kapatid ko si Alex who plays Dani,” said Toni. “We’re orphans and as her Ate, parang ako ang naging nanay niya. Magkaiba ang personalities namin. Pormal ako, too goal-oriented, opposite ni Alex na happy-go-lucky, a free spirit. One night, a mysterious girl dies in front of our house.”

“’Yung kaluluwa ng dead girl, sumanib sa akin,” said Alex. “Habang possessed niya ako, I become violent, attacking everyone, including my own sister. So si Ate, maghahanap siya ng exorcist para to get the evil spirit out.”

Both she and Alex are now married. How’s their relationship now that they live apart?

“We still find time for each other kahit may asawa na kami pareho. Dadalawa lang kaming magkapatid, kaya ang bond namin, connected na talaga kami. Ang communication namin tuloy-tuloy.”

“Ang Ate ko ang una kong sinabihan when I found out that I was pregnant at siya rin una kong tinawagan when I lost it,” revealed Alex. “Her presence and her love for me, they’re always there, nararamdaman ko, pati husband niyang si Kuya Paul na para ko na rin talagang kapatid.”

Did they experience any scary incident while shooting the film?

“We did,” said Toni. “Sa eksenang sinasapian na si Alex, bigla akong nahimatay habang hawak ako ni Melai. Lahat sila, nagpa-panic na. Si Alex, iyak na nang iyak. Tumawag na sila ng ambulansiya at dadalhin daw ako sa ospital. Pero bigla akong tumayo at sabi ko sa kanila, it’s a prank.”

GMA held a special press con to announce that Marian Rivera will be a judge in the Miss Universe to be held in Israel on December 13.

“My management team, Triple A, called me, si Direk Mike Tuviera and informed me about it,” she said. “Sabi ko, totoo ba ‘yan? Ako? But at the same time, siempre, kinilig ako.

Walang dahilan para hindi ko siya tanggapin, kasi malaking karangalan ‘yan for any person na mabigyan ng ganitong kahalagang partisipasyon sa Miss Universe. Makaka-travel pa ako to Israel for the first time.

The feedback on her being a judge is mostly positive, but there are also some bashers who say she might not be capable. What’s her reaction?

“Well, sa nababasa ko, mostly happy naman ang mga tao. But aaminin ko, English is not my first language at hindi naman ako mapagpanggap. But I think kinuha naman nila ako for my body of work and not for anything else.”

Did she have second thoughts, considering she’d be leaving her family?

“Naku, minsan lang ito dumating, so why won’t I accept it? Nakapag-judge na ako before sa MOA Arena, but for a local pageant, so iba ito. Of course, mahirap for me na iwanan ang mga anak ko, but I know someday they’ll understand ang gagawin kong sacrifice na ito.”

She left yesterday, December 6, and it’s good that hubby Dingdong Dantes was back from his month-long lock in taping in San Pablo for a special 4-week run of “I Can See You” with Beauty Gonzales on December 4.

“Oo nga, at least, bago ako umalis, nakabalik na siya at nagkita pa kami. Aalis ako knowing na safe and secure ang mga anak namin.”

What’s Dong’s reaction when he learned she’d be a Miss U judge? “I got the invite two weeks ago at siya ang una kong tinawagan sa taping niya. He’s sobrang supportive. Sabi niya, nakaka-proud naman, you have to go there.”

If ever their daughter Zia would tell her one day that she would want to join a beauty pageant, would she, as a mom, allow Zia?

“Aba, kung gusto niya talaga mag-join, susuportahan ko siya, pero siguruhin muna niyang maganda ang adhikain niya para sa ibang tao.”

Now that John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo are Kapuso stars, would she like to work with them? “Why not? Ako naman, kung ano ibigay ng GMA sa’kin, okay ako, basta mas maluwag na ang taping at mas safe na magtrabaho para sa lahat.”

Andrea Brillantes is the newest brand ambassador of Beautederm Corporation for their Reiko and Kenzen Beautéderm Health Boosters. Andrea is so focused with her career as she’s their family’s breadwinner. What about her love life?

“Everyone knows I have a special friend in Seth Fedelin and I’m already happy with his company,” she said. “So, hindi na po ako naghahanap pa ng iba. We have two new shows, ‘Saying Goodbye’ this December and next year, ‘Lyric and Beat’ naman. We support each other but hindi kami nagmamadali kasi 18 pa lang ako and 19 naman siya. Puede namang maghintay. Ine-enjoy lang namin ang aming special friendship sa ngayon.”

Miss Rei is very happy with Blythe (Andrea’s pet name) as she really posts Beautederm products in her social media accounts.

“Pinopost niya talagang love niya ang mga produkto namin at du’n ko siya lalo na-appreciate,” added Ms. Rei. “Once I gave her a bag, she also posted it in her vlog. I’m really so happy to have her with us.”
