Timor-Leste president set to visit PH

PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. is set to discuss “technical, political, educational and economic partnerships” with Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta who will be in the country on November 10.

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said Ramos-Horta will also meet with officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Justice, Department of Science and Technology, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development during his visit which aims to further strengthen relations between the Philippines and Timor-Leste.

The President, on the sidelines of the 42nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Indonesia in May, assured Timor-Leste Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak of the Philippines’ continued support for his country’s move towards becoming a full-pledged member of the regional bloc.

Timor-Leste, formerly East Timor province of Indonesia, joined the 42nd ASEAN Summit as an observer.

Ramos-Horta first visited the Philippines in 2015 while still campaigning for support for his country’s independence from Indonesia. — Jocelyn Montemayor
