Marked by a recent Viva movie, a triumphant concert with David Pomeranz, and her role as Aurora Aquino in the Broadway production “Here Lies Love,” Vina Morales is brimming with inspiration. Adding to her happiness is her relationship with a lobbyist she first encountered 22 years ago in Hawaii during one of her performances.
Although their love story is 21 years in the making, it has blossomed at the opportune moment for the 48-year-old artist. In an interview at Limbaga 77 on Wednesday, November 29, Vina shared the fulfillment is she experiencing enjoying her career and personal life.
Being part of her inaugural Broadway production, “Here Lies Love,” distinguished by its all-Filipino cast, has been unforgettable. Expressing her eagerness for potential future Broadway endeavors, Vina said, “If there would be another chance to star in a Broadway play, I would gladly embrace it.”
She emphasized performing on stage as exceptional training, particularly when complacency looms. Having been immersed in showbiz since the tender age of 9, she likened the experience to a revitalizing course.
Following a physically demanding yet rewarding month in New York flat, where she navigated the challenges of performing eight times a week on Broadway, Vina returned to Manila to wrap up pending projects. She highlighted the understanding of the production team, ensuring the completion of the film “Sunny” under Viva Films, marking a nostalgic collaboration after a decade.
“I am thrilled to collaborate with them again. The film has Japanese and Taiwanese versions and brings together the Viva Babies, featuring a storyline about high school friends. I find it amusing to work with Angelu, Anna Roces, Sunshine Dizon, Joko Diaz, and Jao Mapa after so many years, along with the younger generation.”
Anticipating a Christmas brimming with love, Vina expressed, “I am happy; my Christmas is filled with love.” After years of keeping her personal life private, she now deems it the right time to share.
They reconnected two years ago, said Vina. “I have no control over where life takes me. I avoid forcing things that aren’t meant to be, a lesson I learned from my youth. Wherever God takes me in life and love, that’s where I want it to originate, so it continues seamlessly.”
