THE foreign affairs minister of Thailand is set to visit Manila on July 3, the Department of Foreign Affairs said yesterday.
It will be the first visit to the country of Maris Sangiampongsa since he assumed the position on May 3.
“During the visit, Secretary Enrique Manalo and Foreign Minister Maris will discuss bilateral areas of cooperation, including the proposed convening of the 6th Meeting of the Philippines-Thailand Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation, as well as regional and international issues of common concern, including the situation in the South China Sea, Myanmar, and Gaza,” the DFA said.
The visit takes place as Manila and Bangkok are celebrating this year the 75th anniversary of bilateral relations which were established through the signing of a Treaty of Friendship in 1949.
The Philippines and Thailand enjoy a robust relationship and are fellow members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
Bilateral trade between the Philippines and Thailand is also growing, with Manila exporting $2.93 billion worth of goods in 2023, according to the UN Comtrade database, while it imports $7 billion from the latter.
There are over 17,000 Filipinos living and working in Thailand.
