THREE members of a terrorist group behind the ambush-slay of four government troops in Maguindanao del Sur last month have surrendered to authorities.
The military’s Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) said the three, who are members of the Daulah Islamiyah-Hassan Group, surrendered last Friday in North Cotabato.
They surrender to members of the Army’s 90th Infantry Battalion (IB), Carmen police station and intelligence units at the Carmen town hall, Westmincom reported yesterday.
The three were presented to local government officials led by Carmen Mayor Rogelio Taliño, Army 602nd Brigade commander Brig. Gen. Donald Gumiran, and 90th IB commander Lt. Col. Rowel Gavilanes.
They handed over three Cal. 30 Garand rifles and 31 ammunition.
Westmincom said the three are undergoing “custodial debriefing” at the headquarters of the 602nd Brigade in North Cotabato.
Lt. Gen. William Gonzales, Westmincom commander, attributed the surrender of the three to the “collaborative efforts” of the AFP and PNP and the unwavering support of local government units and communities.
The Daulah Islamiyah-Hassan Group was blamed for the March 17 ambush of Army soldiers in Datu Hoffer Ampatuan town in Maguindanao del Sur, leaving four soldiers dead.
The four came from the market where they bought food for distribution to residents of Muslim communities during the observance of Ramadan, the Muslims’ month-long religious period.
