DEFENSE Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. yesterday presided over a command conference with the Armed Forces at Camp Aguinaldo, his first since assuming the defense portfolio last June 7.
The command conference, which included AFP chief Gen. Andres Centino, was attended by senior defense and military officials.
DND spokesman Arsenio Andolong said Teodoro was given foyer honors by Centino before they proceeded to the conference room “for the briefing and discussions.”
“The senior defense officials tackled matters involving the DND and AFP, particularly AFP operations, future plans for modernization, (and) defense legislative agenda,” said Andolong.
Andolong said that also discussed was the Military and Uniformed Personnel pension scheme being crafted jointly by the defense and finance departments.
He said the matters that were discussed were “in accordance with the marching orders” of President Marcos Jr.
AFP Public Affairs Office chief Lt. Col. Enrico Gil Ileto said also discussed during the command conference were plans and programs of the defense department.
“…(T)he senior defense and military officials discussed AFP operations and modernization; and the department’s plans, programs, and legislative agenda, which include the proposed military and uniformed personnel pension reform,” said Ileto.
This is the second stint of Teodoro as DND secretary, who held the same post in 2007. He resigned in 2009 to run, but lost, for president in the May 2010 elections.
