PRESIDENT Duterte may consider teaching in Davao City after his term ends on June 30, but nothing is certain at the moment, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said yesterday.
“I really don’t know. He said he was going to teach… in Davao,” Medialdea said in mixed English and Filipino in an interview at the sidelines of the Duterte Legacy Summit.
He said the President is almost done packing his things and had started sending his personal items to his house in Davao City two to three months ago.
The other day, long-time aide turned Sen. Christopher Go said the President intends to stay in Davao City after his term ends.
Duterte had previously said that he would remain a public servant and enemy of illegal drugs after he steps down.
President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. previously said that he is open to working with Duterte “if he wants to” join his Cabinet or become the anti-drug czar.
Medialdea said he is not aware of any formal offer for the outgoing President to serve as anti-drug czar, adding he is not aware if Duterte will accept the offer.
Medialdea also said they have met with the transition team of Marcos after the proclamation of the presidential and vice-presidential winners.
“We’ve met once. With Vic (Rodriguez). We just talked about the venue of the inauguration because there are transition teams for each department. As for me, we’re in charge of the venue,” he said.
Medialdea is the head of the Presidential Transition Committee while Rodriguez, who is the nominated executive secretary of Marcos, leads Marcos’ transition team.
Incoming press secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said there is still no confirmed venue for the inauguration of Marcos on June 30.
Marcos prefers to hold it at the Quirino Grandstand, as it is traditionally where the presidential inaugurations are held, but it is still being used as a coronavirus disease testing center and vaccine drive-through center.
The City of Manila said it intends to close its 24/7 drive-through and swab testing by June 7.
