JENNY Ramp, a Filipino-American student and model from Tarlac, topped the 22nd Miss Philippines Earth in the live finals held in Coron, Palawan last Saturday to take the coveted crown and the right to represent the Philippines at the Miss Earth pageant later this year.

Standing 5’7″ and measuring 34-26-35, Jenny bested the 10 finalists in the face-to-face finale of the pageant that started with 39 contestants competing virtually in preliminary competitions before being cut to the 20 finalists who entered the physical phase of the contest.

Miss Philippines Earth, as well as the Miss Earth pageant, were conducted virtually in 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic and adopted a hybrid format this year.

When asked about her personal battles during the final question and answer, Ramp replied: “The battle that I am currently facing is against myself. Every single day I strive to be the better version of myself and during this pageant, I certainly battled against myself. I was dealt with insecurities; I felt alone. But these empowered me to do better…to do better for myself, for my family, for my friends, for the environment.”

Ramp, who was a pre-pageant favorite, is all for educating everyone about ecological sustainability. “We learned that keeping our world clean is vital to our survival,” Jenny states. “The pandemic made us realize that the world needed to breathe, and now that the world is slowly becoming how it was before the pandemic era, we should not forget to also take care of our home – the Earth. By teaching people, especially the youth and the marginalized sector, I am sure we can become sustainable by choosing green ways over polluting our homes.”

Ramp’s court includes Miss Philippines Air 2022 Jimema Tempra of Jasaan, Misamis Oriental, Miss Philippines Water 2022 Angeline Mae Santos of Trece Martires, Miss Philippines Fire 2022 Eryka Vina Tan of Legazpi City, and Miss Philippines Eco-Tourism 2022 Nycee Lampad of Bayugan City.

Robi Domingo hosted the live show, while former Miss RP and Miss World first runner-up Evangeline Pascual, Coron First Lady Eileen De Guzman Reyes, and Carousel Productions EVP Lorraine Schuck were among the judges.

Malaya Business Insight is among the pageant’s media partners as it has been since its maiden year in 2001.
