Tacurong radio station manager fights for life after being shot

A STATION manager of a local radio station was badly hurt when he was shot by an unidentified gunman in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat past noon yesterday.

Lt. Col. Rey Egos, officer-in-charge of the Tacurong City Police, identified the victim as Benjie Abdul Caballero, 38, station manager of Radyo ni Juan FM, and a resident of Barangay New Isabela, Tacurong City.

Reports said Caballero, a member of Sultan Kudarat provincial task force on media security, is a provincial stringer for a national tabloid.

Investigation showed Caballero was standing by the roadside near his house waiting for a ride to go to work when two men on a motorcycle arrived at around 1:15 p.m.

The back rider alighted, walked toward him, and shot Caballero, hitting him in the body.

The two suspects hurriedly escaped after the shooting.

Caballero was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is in critical condition. — Raymond Africa
