ALMOST an equal number of Filipinos claimed their lives worsened, improved or stayed the same from 12 months ago, the April 19 to 27 Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed.

The survey, which involved 1,440 adult respondents nationwide with a ±2.6 percent margin of error, showed that 34 percent of Filipinos claimed their quality-of-life was worse than 12 months before or “Losers,” while 32 percent said they got better or “Gainers,” and 34 percent said it was the same or “unchanged.

SWS said there was a lesser number of people that said the quality of their lives worsened in the last 12 months at 34 percent, down by 6 points from 40 percent in December 2021, while more people reported an improvement (gainers) at 32 percent or up by 8 points from 24 percent.

This resulted in a net gainers score (percent of gainers minus percent losers) of -2 that SWS classified as “fair.”

The -2 net gainers score is a 14-points improvement from -16 in December but is still

below the pre-pandemic level of 39 percent in December 2019.
SWS classified net gainers scores of +20 and above as “excellent;” between +10 and +19 as “very high;” between +1 and +9 as “high;” between —9 and zero as “fair;” between —19 and —10 as “mediocre;” between —29 and —20 as “low;” between —39 and —30 as “very low;”—49 to —40 as “extremely low;” and —50 and below as “catastrophic.”

The 14-point improvement in the net gainers’ score was attributed to the 11 to 19-point increase in net gainers score in all geographical areas.

SWS said more people from the National Capital Region (NCR) saw their lives improve in the last 12 months with +4 (up from -11 in December), followed by those from Luzon with +1 (from -11), Mindanao with -4 (up from -15), and the Visayas with -12 (UP from -31).

The survey firm also found that there were more net gainers among college graduates with +14 (up by 21 points from -7), followed by the junior high school graduates with +3 (up by 20 points from -17), non-elementary graduates with -9 (up by 10 points from -19), and elementary graduates with -13 (up by 4 points from -17).
