BARRING any last-minute changes, Ramon “Tats” Suzara is set to become the interim president of the new national sports association for volleyball in elections today at the East Ocean Seafoods restaurant in Parañaque City.
A highly-reliable Malaya-Business Insight source close to the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. said it should be a done deal since it was the Philippine Olympic Committee that brokered the set-up of the officials in the body.
“Kung iyon ang sinabi na ng POC, I don’t think mapapalitan iyan kasi palabas nila iyan, sila may kontrol ng lahat ng iyan. Kung ano ang sabihin nila, iyon ang lalabas diyan,?” the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.
“Iyon na ang inilatag ng POC, ng presidente. Sila rin ang pumipili ng botante. So, wala ka nang magagawa.”
Four seats in the board will be given reportedly each to the LVPI, Philippine Volleyball Federation, and a coalition headed by Suzara. A 13th seat will be given to a POC representative.
Suzara’s group will be given the president and secretary-general positions, the LVPI the vice-president and treasure slots, and the PVF the chairmanship and auditor posts.
Another election is reportedly set next year.
On the persistent request of the International Volleyball Federation, known by its French acronym FIVB, the POC will supervise the polls aimed at ending the country’s volleyball row.
POC president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino said the local Olympic body will supervise the elections hands-on.
The LVPI of Joey Romasanta was recognized by the FIVB and has been forming the national volleyball teams.
The other group, the PVF, is led by Edgardo “Boy” Cantada and was allegedly stripped of its FIVB membership.
