THE Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) yesterday said three suspects in the killing of Misamis Occidental, broadcaster, Juan “DJ Johnny Walker” Jumalon have been identified.
On its Facebook page, the PTFoMS said Executive Director Paul Gutierrez, in a report to Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla and Presidential Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil, said the suspects were identified through “their aliases as ‘Ricky,’ ‘Boboy’ and ‘Inteng.’”
Gutierrez said charges of murder and theft have been filed before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office against the suspects.
He said that based on his talks with Maj. Gen. Eric Noble, chief of the PNP Directorate for Investigation and Detection Management (DIDM) and Col. Dwight Monato, Misamis Occidental police director and “SITG DJ Johnny Walker” ground commander, the charges were filed against “Ricky” on November 16, 2023, while the complaints against “Alias Boboy” and “Alias Inteng” were filed before the start of the long Christmas break.
“We would be releasing their formal identities as soon as the cases against them have been formally elevated to the courts,” said Gutierrez, adding that “Wanted” posters containing the suspects’ identities would soon be distributed in public to aid in the arrest of the suspects.
He said there was information the suspects had been sighted in Misamis Oriental and Zamboanga del Norte.
Gutierrez said the P3.7 million reward for information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects stands.
The Misamis Occidental government has offered a P3.5 million reward while P100,000 each would come from the PTFoMS and the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC).
Jumalon, owner of community radio 94.7 Gold FM in Calamba in Misamis Occidental, was shot in his home studio while holding his early morning broadcast on November 5, 2023.
The gunman also reportedly stole his gold necklace before escaping on board a motorcycle with his accomplices.
