SECURITY forces arrested an alleged recruiter and supporter of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay on Tuesday, police reported yesterday.

The Zamboanga Peninsula regional police office named the arrested suspect as Abdul Salikala, said to be a member of the Hassan criminal gang.

Regional police spokeswoman Maj. Shellamie Chang said Salikala was nabbed by police and military personnel during a “counter-terrorism operation” in Sitio DK, Barangay Libertad in Tungawan at around 4:30 p.m.

Chang said Salikala has an arrest warrant for murder that was issued by Judge Peter Eisma of the Zamboanga City Regional Trial Court on June 28, 2011.

Salikala is said to be involved in gunrunning activities in Zamboanga del Norte.

“He was also monitored recruiting both male and female individuals to be part of the IS/Daesh in Siocon (in Zamboanga del Norte),” said Chang, referring to ISIS.
