SOUTHERN Police District Director Brig. Gen. Kirby John Kraft yesterday identified the suspect who gunned down a New Zealander in a robbery attempt in Makati City and offered a P50,000 reward for information that may lead to the suspect’s arrest.

In a hastily-called press conference, Kraft said the suspect is John Mar Manalo, whose last known address was in Upper Bicutan, Taguig City.

Earlier, the New Zealand government warned its citizens in the Philippines to be security conscious after Nicholas Peter Stacey, 34, was gunned down by two unidentified suspects on Filmore St., Barangay Palanan, Makati last February 19.

Stacey and her Filipina girlfriend were walking to a laundry shop when they were accosted by the suspects, who tried to rob them. The New Zealander resisted and grappled for the gun of one of the suspects but was shot to death.

Kraft said Manalo was identified by four witnesses, including a Grab driver who reported the shooting to barangay officials of Palanan.

“We have a breakthrough in this case as we were able to identify the suspect, John Mar Manalo,” Kraft said. “He has a standing warrant of arrest in Bulacan for robbery with violence or intimidation.”
