A TROPICAL storm, with international name “Hinnamnor,” may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday or Thursday.
However, it was still too far to affect any part of the country, said Aldczar Aurelio, weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
“But based on our analysis and data that we gathered, it’s possible it will enter our PAR on Wednesday or Thursday,” Aurelio said in a press briefing.
PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said Hinnamnor was in the area of Japan as of yesterday.
Badrina, in a radio interview, said Hinnamnor is forecast to move westward “so there is a possibility it will enter our Philippine area of responsibility towards the end of the week.”
“PAGASA is monitoring this but as of now it (Hinnamnor) is not affecting our country,” said Badrina.
If Hinnamnor enters the PAR, it will be given the local name “Gardo.”
The last tropical cyclone to hit the country was severe tropical storm “Florita” which made landfall in Isabela on August 23. It left three people dead and four others injured.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the cost of damage to infrastructure and agriculture from Florita was P498.9 million and P3.4 million, respectively, as of last Sunday. The cost of damage to irrigation was at P10.8 million.
Florita affected some 30,065 families of which 600 families remained displaced as of Sunday, either staying in evacuation centers, with relatives, or with their friends.
