Liza Soberano, Ogie Diaz, Iza Calzado, Anne Curtis, Bea Alonzo, Vice Ganda, Dimples Romana, Karla Estrada, and Rachelle Ann Go are just some of the celebrities who sent encouraging messages to Angel Locsin following the death of a senior citizen who lined up at the community pantry organized by the actress on her birthday, April 12.
Rolando Dela Cruz, a balut vendor, passed out while in line at the community pantry in Holy Spirit in Quezon City which was set up by the actress to mark her 36th birthday. He was said to have been brought to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Locsin immediately issued a public apology which she posted on her Instagram account:
“Sa tingin ko, tama lang po na sa akin ninyo na marinig na totoo po ang balita na may inatake at namatay habang nasa pila ng community pantry. Senior citizen po sya na pumila daw po ng 3 am at may naka-initan sa pila.
“Bago po ang lahat, humihingi po ako ng tawad sa pamilya. Kanina po pinuntahan at nakapagusap po kami ng personal ng mga anak nya sa ospital. At habang buhay po ako hihingi ng patawad sa kanya.”
She acknowledged her responsibility for Dela Cruz’ demise and ended her statement by reiterating her apology. “I am very very sorry,” she wrote.
Relatives of the balut vendor said they do not blame Angel Locsin for the death of their family member. Dela Cruz’ daughter said Locsin personally apologized to them and took care of all the medical expenses of their father.
Meanwhile, friends of Locsin from showbiz showed their support for the actress by commenting on her apology post.
“You don’t need to say sorry ate dahil hindi mo naman ginusto ang mga nangyari,” wrote Liza Soberano. “We will be praying for tatay’s soul, for his family who is mourning and for your good health and peace of mind.”
“God sees your beautiful heart and its pure intentions. Mahigpit na yakap Gel! We will pray for Tatay and his family,” said Vice Ganda.
ABS-CBN, Angel’s home network, released a statement yesterday throwing their support behind the host of “Iba ‘Yan.”
It read: “ABS-CBN believes in the goodness of the heart of our Kapamilya Angel Locsin, who in her personal capacity has tirelessly helped our countrymen in times of crisis.
“We admire her commitment to continue serving the Filipino people with selfless dedication and love.
“We stand by her and thank her for being a shining example of generosity, accountability, and compassion.”
