THE Metro Manila Council may soon pass an ordinance that will penalize people in Metro Manila who reserve parking slots by standing on them, especially in malls.
The MMC, whose members are the 17 Metro mayors, is the policy-making body of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
MMDA Chairperson Romando Artes said they are currently studying the matter.
“This is as soon as possible, aaralin lang namin mabuti (We are just studying it),” Artes said in a press briefing at the agency’s headquarters in Pasig City.
He said the 17 Metro LGUs need to come up with a uniform ordinance on the matter.
Artes said they will also need to coordinate with the management of shopping malls and other establishments.
“Magco-coordinate tayo sa mga may-ari ng mga malls at ‘yung mga private parking para ma-institutionalize din ito at mapagbawalan ang mga tao (We will coordinate with mall owners and private parking institutions to institutionalize the prohibition),” he added.
The MMDA chief said the Metro mayors decided to come up with such an ordinance after several videos of fights over parking slots went viral on social media.
