Stags stay patient, look forward to practice

TWO big questions gnaw at San Sebastian College coach Egay Macaraya: When will the NCAA 96th season start? That’s uncertain, for now.

Whether prized Golden Stags playmaker RK Ilagan and big man JM Calma will suit up for their fifth and final year, Macaraya has a ready answer.

“Dalawa iyong player ko na pumapasok sa mock draft. They are RK Ilagan and JM Calma,” Macaraya told Malaya-Business Insight yesterday.

“Both of them ay maglalaro sa Baste for their last NCAA season,” he added.

The 5-foot-8 Ilagan averaged 14.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.1 assists, while the 6-foot-5 Calma was good for 8.1 points and 4.6 rebounds in the last NCAA cage wars.

Macaraya, who will call the shots for the Recto-based squad for the fifth year, said his charges are staying patient despite not getting to play the past seven months.

“Well, lahat kami gustong gusto ng bumalik sa court. Siguro naman we waited seven months and praying na sooner makabalik na because the NBA is successful,” he said.

“Our PBA is starting, then the hope of collegiate team is next. Patience kaunti and prayers, iyan iyong palagi kong sinasabi sa mga bata. Patience and don’t get sick.”
