SPD criminality drive nets 76 drug offenders

A week-long anti-criminality effort carried out by various police units under the Southern Police District resulted in the arrest of 59 suspects wanted for various crimes, 76 drug offenders, and 87 illegal gamblers.

SPD Director Brig. General Roderick Mariano said the anti-crime drive started last August 7 and ended on August 13.

“On illegal drug operations, a total of 76 individuals involved in illegal drug activities were apprehended. The operations led to the seizure of 504. 02 grams of marijuana and 225.78 grams of shabu, with a combined standard drugs price value of P1, 595, 786.40,” Mariano said, adding the apprehensions underscored the SPD’s effort to combat the scourge of illegal drugs trade in its area of jurisdiction.

The SPD covers the cities of Makati, Pasay, Paranaque, Taguig, Muntinlupa, Las Pinas, and the lone municipality of Pateros.

Mariano said eight individuals in their top most wanted suspects were also collared while 18 more most wanted individuals were also taken into custody.

Additionally, 33 other wanted persons were apprehended in the week-long anti-crime drive.

On loose firearms, Mariano said nine individuals were also arrested along with nine unlicensed firearms of various calibers while 87 individuals were also arrested for illegal gambling.

“During these operations, P14, 476.75 in collected bet money was confiscated,” the SPD chief added.

Meanwhile, 1,118 individuals were also apprehended in the entire SPD area for drinking in public, 2,093 for smoking in public places, 1,162 for curfew violations, 162 for public urination, 2,203 for traffic code violations, and 1,080 for obstruction-related incidents.

“We remain steadfast in our mission to ensure the safety and security of Southern Metro Manila. Through these weekly accomplishments, we reaffirm our commitment to uphold the rule of law and provide a secure environment for all residents,” Mariano said, adding the SPD will further intensify its anti-criminality efforts.
