SMUGGLING raps have been filed by the Bureau of Customs before the Department of Justice against importers and customs brokers of imported aluminum products and airsoft guns and accessories.

First to be sued was Mega Precision Corp. and its customs brokers for the importation of undeclared 2,000 pieces of aluminum profiles in August 2018 at the Port of Manila. The BOC said the goods are estimated to be worth P821,461.69.

“Mega Precision Corporation and its signing customs broker violated Republic Act No. 10863, otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act or CMTA, and Article 172 in relation to Article 171 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC), as amended,” the BOC said in a statement.

Another criminal complaint was filed against VMP Trading, which allegedly misdeclared P1,303,329.76 worth of various airsoft guns and accessories in December last year.

“The unlawful importation of air soft guns and accessories is a violation of the CMTA, and Section X of PNP Circular No. 11-2007, otherwise known as the “Revised Rules and Regulations Governing the Manufacture, Importation, Exportation, Sale, Possession, Carrying of Airsoft Rifles/Pistols and Operation of Airsoft Game Sites and Airsoft Teams,” the BOC added.

It said that 34 criminal cases have been filed before the DOJ against unscrupulous importers and customs brokers.
