JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla yesterday directed the National Bureau of Investigation to examine skeletal remains recovered in an excavation site inside the DOJ compound in Padre Faura, Manila.

“We will have the same examined by the NBI,” Remulla said of the skeletal remains uncovered by construction workers inside the DOJ compound.

Agents of the NBI forensic division took the skeletal remains for examination at past 4 p.m. yesterday.

The skeletal remains were recovered at the excavation site where a new 4-storey Justice Center Building 2 located behind the main DOJ building will be constructed.

Justice Undersecretary Brigido Dulay said a whole skull and several bone fragments were recovered.

Dulay declined to provide additional details, saying the DOJ will leave it to the NBI forensic division to conduct further examination.

“We will leave it to the forensics since we do not have the expertise to analyze these things,” he said.

Dulay said construction activity in the area where the skeletal remains were recovered have been temporarily put on hold while NBI forensic agents combed the place.

It was not the first time that skeletal remains were recovered inside the DOJ compound.

In 2005, five skulls and human bones were found at the construction site of what now stands as the Forum Building where prosecutors of the National Prosecution Service hold office.
