SINGAPORE President Halimah Yacob has invited presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to a state visit and said she looks forward to working with his government, the Marcos camp said yesterday.
The invitation was contained in a letter which also congratulated Marcos Jr. on his victory in the May 9 elections.
“On behalf of the people of the Republic of Singapore, I warmly congratulate you on your electoral success,” a statement from the Marcos camp said quoting Yacob’s letter, adding she highlighted the “warm and long standing relationship” between the Philippines and Singapore.
The camp said Yacob recalled the “warm and gracious hospitality extended to her by Filipinos during her state visit in the Philippines in September 2019” and looks forward to “working with you to strengthen the friendship between our two countries.”
“I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to make a state visit to Singapore. I wish you every success in steering the Philippines to greater heights,” she added.
Yacob’s message came at the heels of calls and congratulatory messages sent by other world leaders to Marcos such as United States President Joe Biden, Chinese President Xi Jingping and Australian Prime Minister Scott John Morrison.
Marcos is leading the presidential race with more than 31 million votes followed by Vice President Leni Robredo with more than 14 million votes based on the election returns from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) transparency media server.
