A TRANSPORT vessel ran aground off San Jose town in Romblon last Saturday, the Philippine Coast Guard reported yesterday.
No one was hurt in the mishap which occurred at around 3 p.m. involving the ill-fated LCT Ellis Mari IV, the PCG said.
The PCG said the vessel, with 19 crew members on board, left Odiongan Port in Romblon at around 8 a.m. Saturday on its way to San Jose town.
The PCG said the vessel was already performing “engine docking procedures” in Barangay Busay in San Jose when it ran aground 500 yards off the barangay “due to strong winds and currents.”
The ship was carrying 40 bags of tanner cement, 120 cubic meters of sand, 120 cubic meters of gravel, and five drums of diesel when it figured in the accident, the PCG said.
“Local divers conducted vessel damage inspection and found minor scratches on her starboard (right) side near the stern (rear) area,” the PCG said.
The PCG said the vessel’s 19 crew members, including the captain, were in good physical condition.
“The PCG team advised the captain to file a marine protest to document the incident for submission to the PCG and MARINA (Maritime Industry Authority),” the PCG said.
