SENATORS yesterday honored and commended Pasig City Mayor Victor Ma. Regis “Vico” Sotto after the US State of Department named him as one of the world’s 12 anti-corruption champions.

All 23 senators present during Monday’s hybrid session adopted Senate Resolution No. 660, principally authored by Sen. Panfilo Lacson, which congratulated and cheered Sotto “for being recognized as one of the International Anti-Corruption Champions by the United States’ Department of State for prioritizing anti-corruption initiatives.”

Lacson said he cannot allow the achievement of Sotto to be left unrecognized by the Senate. “Simply put, I thought I should not let this opportunity pass not to recognize a rare feat in public service,” Lacson said in his sponsorship speech.

He said Sotto is the best example of a public servant “who exemplifies good governance, accountability, and integrity in the conduct of his duties.”

“Since he won the mayoral race in 2019, Vico Sotto has been demonstrating his steadfast commitment of stopping corruption by eliminating kickback or bribery in awarding of city contracts, establishing a 24/7 public information and complaints hotline, and formally involving civil society organizations in the city’s budgeting and policymaking,” Lacson added.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III said his nephew’s accomplishment, for someone who is relatively new in politics, is “truly impressive and laudable, to say the least.”
