VOTING 22-0, the Senate yesterday approved on third and final reading the Medical Scholarship Act that will provide free medical education to deserving and qualified students.

“This measure comes at the most opportune time as our country continues to battle against the devastating health impacts of COVID-19. This law will help the healthcare system sector to be better prepared for similar health emergencies in the future,” Senate President Vicente Sotto III said.

Under the proposed measure, the government shall institutionalize a medical scholarship program for deserving and qualified new and continuing medical students in state colleges and universities and partner private higher education institutions and integrated them into the country’s public health care system.
