FOUR senators have filed separate resolutions expressing the sympathy and condolences of the Senate to the Biazon family following the death of former senator Rodolfo “Pong” Biazon and to honor his dedication as a public servant.

Senate Resolution No. 652 was filed by Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, while Senate Resolution No. 653 was filed by Senate majority leader Joel Villanueva, and Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano.

In his resolution, Zubiri cited Biazon’s various achievements as a senator, whom he described as a “steadfast champion of decent and affordable housing, and of security and defense.”

Zubiri also lauded the former AFP chief of staff for spearheading the passage of landmark measures such as the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, the Rental Reform Act of 2022, the Comprehensive and Integrated Shelter Finance Act of 1994, the AFP Modernization Act, the Act amending Presidential Decree No. 1752 to make membership in the Pag-IBIG Fund mandatory, and the Home Guaranty Corporation Act of 2000.

“I had the good fortune of working closely with Senator Pong Biazon on measures such as the Magna Carta for Homeowners and Homeowners Associations, and I saw firsthand how meticulous and hardworking he was as a legislator,” said Zubiri, who became a senator in 2007 when Biazon was still in office.

“I imagine that coming from his military background, he was extremely disciplined and intentional in everything he did, and he set a standard for us younger lawmakers to aspire to,” he added.

The resolution is not the only honor that the decorated soldier-turned-legislator will be receiving from the Senate. Per tradition, a necrological service will be held for him on June 19.

In their resolution, Villanueva and the Cayetano siblings also cited the several achievements of Biazon as a military officer and lawmaker.

“Senator Biazon leaves a legacy of excellence in the military and in politics, serving as an inspiration to the Filipino people through his patriotism, dedication, and compassion,” the siblings said.
