The PNP yesterday filed kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges against a security guard for the disappearance of a “sabungero” or cockfight enthusiast in Laguna last year.

The case against Julie Patidongan, alias Dondon of AA Cobra Farm in Barangay Palasan, Sta Cruz, Laguna, was lodged before the Department of Justice.

A John Doe was also included in the complaint.

Patidongan was charged for the kidnapping of Michael Bautista, a resident of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, who the suspect said his cohort seized at a cockfighting arena in Sta Cruz, Laguna on April 28 last year.

Bautista is one of the 34 still missing sabungeros who disappeared or were abducted from various cockfighting arenas last year and this year.

A video showing two men escorting the handcuffed Bautista was recently secured by the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, leading to the identification of Patidongan.

Earlier yesterday, the CIDG released a sketch of Dondon based on the video which was taken from a cell phone. The other suspect was yet to be identified.

CIDG spokesman Maj. CIDG spokeswoman Maj. Mae Ann Cunanan said Patidongan was among the nine security guards of Manila Arena and several John Does charged in March with kidnapping and serious illegal detention in connection with the disappearance of six sabungeros at the cockfighting arena two months earlier.

The following month, police probers also filed similar charges against five policemen and several John Does for the disappearance of another sabungero in San Pablo City, Laguna in August last year.
