THE Supreme Court has suspended the filing of pleadings and other court submissions from December 20, 2021 to January 3, 2022 due to the damage wrought by Typhoon “Odette” on government infrastructures, including buildings housing courtrooms.
“Upon instructions of Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, and due to the adverse effects of super typhoon Odette… resulting to extensive damage to government infrastructure and private property, including a number of halls of justices … the filing of any and all pleadings and court submissions with the trial courts is suspended form December 20, 2021 to January 3, 2022,” the administrative circular issued by Deputy Court Administrator Raul Villanueva said.
In the same circular, the SC also ordered the extension of the filing periods of any and all pleadings and other court submissions that fell due or would fall due during the period for “seven calendar days counted from January 4, 2022.”
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council yesterday said 156 people were reported dead, 37 were missing and 275 were injured due to the onslaught of Odette, while more than 1.8 million people were also affected.
