VICE President-elect Sara Duterte yesterday said Supreme Court Justice Ramon Paul L. Hernando will administer her oath this Sunday, June 19, in Davao City.
Duterte, who will be the country’s 15th VP, said Hernando and his wife, lawyer Cherry Chiara Quiambao-Hernando, are her long-time friends.
“He is a former professor. He and his wife are my good friends for over 10 years,” she said.
She also shared other details of her oath-taking, including a “new bible, given as a gift,” the venue, and what she would do on the eve of the occasion.
She said she would take her oath at the San Pedro Square in downtown Davao, chosen because “it is in between the Davao City Hall and the San Pedro Cathedral,” adding the Mindanao Alumni Chorale was chosen to lead the National Anthem “because they symbolize Davao/Mindanao.”
She said she would spend the eve of her oath taking “at home.”
Duterte said she would wear a dress designed by Davao-based Silverio Anglacer that she described as a modern version of Filipiniana. Anglacer declined to provide more details about the dress, saying he would come up with more information by Friday.
Duterte also said she does not intend to wear any jewelry, except for a pair of earrings that she said is not an heirloom that does not symbolize anything.
Reports said President Duterte, who missed his daughter’s proclamation as winner of the vice-presidential race, will attend the inauguration.
The oath-taking will be preceded by a thanksgiving mass at 3 p.m. and will be followed by the “MUSIKAHAN: Pasasalamat ni Vice President Sara Duterte” music fest topbilled by Andrew E., Isay Alvarez, Robert Seña, and Giselle Sanchez.
The outgoing Davao City mayor opted to take her oath earlier than June 30 to enable her to attend the inauguration of her running mate, President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Traditionally, the President and Vice President are inaugurated on the same day, June 30.
The younger Duterte will assume the vice presidency at noon of June 30 as stated in the Constitution.
Duterte, during the oath-taking yesterday in Tacloban City of her campaign manager, House Majority Leader and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez, said she is truly thankful of the support of the people that led to her victory and the experience that she gained during the campaign.
“I am truly thankful for all that happened because (it’s) a learning experience from me, and I am appreciative of all that you have taught me, kayong lahat, mga kababayan ko, and I commit to be beside you in the service of our country,” she said.
