THE Supreme Court has junked a petition assailing the proposed amendments to the by-laws of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines as well as its proposed 2023 elections guidelines.
The justices reached the decision to dismiss the petition lodged by lawyer Peter Paul Maglalang and several others during their regular en banc session last Tuesday.
A media briefer issued by the SC said the petition was denied for “lack of merit.”
A petition filed last month asked the High Court to issue a temporary restraining order and/or a writ of preliminary injunction to declare “illegal, unjust and discriminatory” the proposed amendments to the by-laws of the IBP and the guidelines for the 2023 elections for IBP Governors for allegedly encroaching upon the SC’s exclusive authority and jurisdiction.
Maglalang is the IBP Governor for Central Luzon while the other petitioners, according to the SC, are incumbent and past governors, president, vice presidents, and officers of several IBP chapters.
The SC has yet to release a full copy of its decision on the case.
