Samar areas under signal No. 1

A LOW pressure area developed into a tropical depression yesterday and is expected to intensify into a storm tomorrow, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said yesterday.

Signal No. 1 was raised over Eastern Samar and the eastern portion of Northern Samar.

“Ramon” is projected to make landfall on Sunday in the eastern side of northern Luzon.

As of 4 p.m. yesterday, Ramon was some 670 km east of Borongan City in Eastern Samar.

It was moving west at 10 kph, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

Weather specialist Gener Quitlong said Ramon is projected to intensity into a tropical storm while it about 360 km east of Infanta, Quezon.

PAGASA said Bicol Region and the provinces of Northern Samar, Samar, and Eastern Samar may experience light to moderate with occasional heavy rains today.

Meanwhile, light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains may be felt in Romblon, Marinduque, and southern Quezon also today.

On Thursday, light to moderate with occasional heavy rains may be experienced in Isabela, Aurora, Quirino, northern Quezon (including Polilio Islands) and Camarines Norte.

Also on Thursday, light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains may be felt in Cagayan, Nueva Vizcaya, Romblon, Marinduque, and the rest of Bicol Region.
