PRESIDENT Duterte met with Russian Ambassador Marat Pavlov on Monday amid the continuing war between Russia and Ukraine and its impact on the rising global prices of fuel products.

Malacañang released photos of the courtesy call but Pavlov was mum on the results of the meeting.

Prior to their meeting, Pavlov also paid a courtesy call on incoming President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and affirmed Russia’s readiness to help the Philippines in its energy resources needs.

Pavlov said the Philippines and Russia have agreed to continue the discussion “a little bit further” in the coming days.

Russia is one of the world’s largest exporters of petroleum products but several countries such as the United States and those in Europe have imposed sanctions against Russia, including banning oil importation following its invasion of Ukraine.
