Ruru Madrid embraces vigilante identity in ‘Black Rider’

The highly anticipated return of “Primetime Action Hero” Ruru Madrid happens on primetime tonight as he revs up for his role in GMA’s upcoming action-packed Filipino drama series, “Black Rider.”

“Black Rider” is a thrilling mix of heroism, revenge, justice, and family drama presented in cinematic fashion. This full-action series from GMA Public Affairs boasts an ensemble cast that includes Ruru, Matteo Guidicelli, Yassi Pressman, and Katrina Halili, with a special appearance by Kylie Padilla.

Ruru plays Elias Guerrero, a motorcycle driver working for the delivery app Biyahero. As the storyline unfolds, he embraces a new identity as the vigilante “Black Rider” and takes on the notorious Golden Scorpion syndicate.

Known for his dedication to performing his own stunts, Ruru Madrid underwent intensive training in hand combat, motocross, and martial arts specifically tailored for the fight choreography of “Black Rider.” He regards this project as a dream come true and is excited to share it with the audience.

“Excited na po ako na ibahagi sa inyo ang Black Rider — ang latest primetime offering ng GMA Public Affairs kung saan pinagsama-sama ang mga artista mula sa iba’t ibang henerasyon. Isang karangalan na makasama ko ang mga tinitingala kong artista sa napakalaking proyektong ito. Maraming salamat, GMA Network, GMA Public Affairs, at Sparkle GMA Artist Center sa pagtupad sa aking pangarap na makagawa ng isang full-action series. Ipinapangako ko sa inyo na ibubuhos ko ang lahat para sa programa na ito,” shares Ruru Madrid.

Joining the cast is Matteo Guidicelli, who makes his return to GMA. Matteo plays the role of Paeng Policarpio, a brave police officer who shares a deep bond with Elias.

Yassi, who takes on the character of Vanessa “Bane” Bartolome, marks her return to both teleserye and GMA. Bane is a petty thief whose life becomes intertwined with Elias. She also has a dark past with the Golden Scorpion.

Yassi expresses her gratitude for the opportunity to work with GMA again and is excited to showcase her badass side.

Katrina, another homegrown GMA actress, is Rona Marie Ana “Romana” Tolentino, a vigilante who joins forces with Elias to combat the Golden Scorpion. Katrina is expected to demonstrate her action skills in the series and shares her excitement about returning to primetime alongside great actors.

“I am happy and excited to return to primetime and this time, for a full-action drama series alongside great actors,” says Katrina who is expected to show off her fierce action skills in the series. “Nag-train po kami para sa aming mga karakter sa seryeng ito kaya naman sana po ay suportahan ninyo ang Black Rider.”

“Black Rider” features an impressive ensemble cast that includes iconic action stars like Zoren Legaspi, Raymart Santiago, Gary Estrada, Raymond Bagatsing, Isko Moreno, Monsour del Rosario, and Roi Vinzon. Veteran actors such as Rio Locsin, Gladys Reyes, Maureen Larrazabal, and Almira Muhlach are also part of the series.

Jon Lucas plays Calvin Magallanes, who shares Elias’s motorcycle skills but is driven by ambition and a thirst for power within the Golden Scorpion syndicate.

Additional cast members include Empoy Marquez, Janus del Prado, Rainier Castillo, and the Golden Scorpion Boys, portrayed by Joem Bascon, Dustin Yu, Joaquin Manansala, Kim Perez, Vance Larena, and Saviour Ramos.

The series promises exciting action sequences that aim to elevate Filipino action while highlighting the themes of family love and heroism in the face of adversity. Elias’ transformation from a regular motorcycle driver to a symbol of justice and hope for the people of Manila is expected to resonate with Filipino viewers.

“Black Rider” emphasizes the enduring appeal of motorcycles in the Philippines, a country with approximately 30 million motorcycle riders out of a population of 100 million.

Action director Erwin Tagle with master directors Rommel Penesa and Richard Arellano are at the helm “Black Rider.”

“Black Rider” airs Monday to Friday at 8 p.m. on GMA, with simulcast airing on Pinoy Hits and livestreaming via Kapuso Stream. Catch the delayed telecast on GTV at 9:40 p.m.
