“ROSAL” rapidly weakened from a tropical storm into a low pressure area (LPA) yesterday morning before dissipating in the afternoon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported Rosal’s transition to an LPA in a bulletin, the last for the tropical cyclone, issued at 5 a.m. yesterday.

PAGASA said the LPA was some 1,020 km east of extreme northern Luzon as of 4 a.m. yesterday, moving southeastward at 10 kph. It was “too far to directly affect the weather condition in the country.”

In a public weather forecast at 4 p.m yesterday, PAGASA weather forecaster Rhea Torres said the LPA dissipated at 2 p.m. yesterday.

PAGASA said the Cagayan Valley region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora province, and the northern portion of Quezon province (including Polillo Island) will have cloudy skies with rains due to the northeast monsoon.

The Ilocos region will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rains also due to the northeast monsoon.

It said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said PAGASA is expecting one more tropical cyclone this month.

“In the next couple of days, there is a small chance we will have a tropical cyclone. But we are expecting another tropical cyclone inside our Philippine area of responsibility this month of December,” he said.
