LEYTE Rep. Martin Romualdez was re-elected Monday morning as speaker of the House of Representatives for the 20th Congress after receiving 269 votes.
Romualdez, a first cousin of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., retained the post that he has been holding since the 19th Congress, after no one rose to challenge him during the period of nomination at the opening of the First Regular Session.
The speaker was nominated by Quezon Rep. David Suarez, whose move was seconded by presidential son Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos, and Reps. Marc Enverga of Quezon, Ronaldo Puno of Antipolo City, Vicente Emano of Misamis Oriental and Raymond Democrito Mendoza (PL, TUCP).
