AS has been his family’s tradition, President Duterte will mark his 77th birthday today, his last as president, in a “simple and quiet” celebration at his home in Davao City with his family, Communications secretary and acting presidential spokesman Martin Andanar said yesterday.
“His (President Duterte) birthday wish for this year is to have a clean, fair, and honest election in May 2022, as he has time and again underscored the importance of a peaceful transfer of power as part of his enduring legacy,” Andanar said.
He said the administration not only wished Duterte a happy 77th birthday on March 28 but also thanked him for his “strong and decisive leadership,” and “genuine compassion for every Filipino,” which has inspired the officials in government and have resulted in positive and meaningful change to the lives of a great number of our people.
“Our prayer for the Almighty is to continue giving the President good physical and mental health in the years to come so he may carry on serving the interest of and bringing betterment to the lives of Filipinos,” Andanar added.
As in previous years, Duterte flew to his home in Davao City days before his birthday.
In previous years, he was seen spending it catching on sleep, spending time with his grandchildren and enjoying a family meal.
