THE Bayanihan E-Konsulta (BEK) program of outgoing Vice President Leni Robredo has assisted at least 58,000 COVID-19 cases through the help of volunteers since it was implemented in April last year.
While she lost her volunteer-driven presidential bid to Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Robredo said the program remains proof that volunteerism can go a long way no matter how big an obstacle Filipinos are facing.
“With Bayanihan E-Konsulta, we proved that if we are united, we can accomplish a lot. No matter how hard the task ahead is, this is proof that when we have the resolve to act, to take action, we can do it as long as we help each other),” she said in mixed Filipino and English.
Robredo made the statement at the town hall meeting and thanksgiving for volunteers and staff who took part in the BEK program, held at the UP Diliman Ang Bahay ng Alumni in Quezon City last Monday.
Robredo led the giving of certificates of recognition to BEK physicians, medical and non-medical volunteers, and OVP staff for devoting their service to the free tele-medicine platform launched in April 2021 at the height of the COVID-19 cases in the country.
Robredo underscored the importance of keeping the spirit of “bayanihan” and volunteerism among Filipinos alive, saying it gave life to the BEK operations.
The BEK program also provided the public with free COVID-19 care kits which include paracetamol tablets, vitamins, thermometers, face masks, oximeters, disinfectant, and alcohol.
