THE Department of Health (DOH) yesterday reported that the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) reproduction rate in the National Capital Region (NCR) is still above 1 and is continuously rising.
In a brief statement, the DOH said: “The Rt of NCR, as of May 23, is at 1.25.”
According to the World Health Organization, the ideal reproduction rate is less than 1, as having greater than 1 means that the infection will spread exponentially.
Despite this, the DOH said the increase in Metro Manila cases is not yet a cause for alarm.
“While we have seen an incremental increase in the Rt and observed a similar uptick in cases, these are slow, small, non-sustained, and have not yet translated to increase in admissions,” said the DOH.
Last May 20, the independent OCTA Research noted that the reproduction rate in the NCR had gone up to 1.05.
Earlier, OCTA said the worst case scenario in Metro Manila is a manifestation of a “weak surge” in COVID-19 cases.
